The biggest dangers in the ocean are created by people. In fact, the world’s biggest landfill is in the Pacific Ocean.

It is now documented that are huge garbage patches in each of the oceans.

    I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the "greenwashing" file: appliance maker Electrolux will manufacture some vacuums out of plastic harvested from these floating garbage islands.

    The Swedish firm said the vacuum cleaners will not be sold, but rather used to bring attention to the issues of plastic pollution and the scarcity of recycled plastics needed for making sustainable home appliances.

      Brynn: How many of those vacuums will Electrolux need to make to clean all of that plastic out of the ocean? Probably about 25 billion. Maybe they can make one huge vacuum to suck the oil out of the Gulf . . .
