Deep Dive on Immigration Featuring Attorney Javad Khazaeli

If you are frustrated with the national "debate" on immigration, I invite you to list to this episode of "The Jury is Out," a podcast I co-host along with John Simon and Tim Cronin of the Simon Law Firm. Our guest for Episode 427 is Javad Khazaeli, a St. Louis attorney who has practiced in the field of Immigration law for years. He offers many stories about our massively dysfunctional immigration system, some of them jaw dropping. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed, no matter what you think you know about immigration. This is Part I of a two-part series, the second episode on immigration will drop soon.

Bonus: Watch and listen to Ronald Reagan and George Bush debate Immigration in a 1980 Presidential Debate. If you think you already know the kinds of things they will say, you are probably very wrong.

If you enjoyed this episode of "The Jury is Out," feel free to subscribe and listen to our show wherever you get your podcasts.

Illegal Immigration by the Numbers

This is a bizarre way to handle the issue of Immigration. These numbers are stunningly high. If we were a normal country with a functioning Congress, we would sit down and deliberate over how to handle immigration, determining the number of immigrants that could meaningfully assimilate in the U.S.  And then we would enforce our laws.

Democrat Media Goes Radio-Silent after Joe Biden Adopts Donald Trump’s Immigration Policy

The content of this thread following Glenn Greenwald's Tweet is exactly what we should expect to get more of as long as so many of us continue relishing two-party tribalism rather than engaging in nuanced heterodox thinking. Read the thread and you will find cheap theater staged by Rachel Maddow and AOC on this issue. Too many of us are working in overtime to score cheap political points instead of working to have meaningful discussions regarding complex issues. The HxA way would be a good start.

Looking back  only 18 months . . .

The end of illegal immigration

I spotted this comment on Reddit.com:

You want to end illegal immigration tomorrow, Arizona? Put a $10,000 fine—per illegal, per day—on everyone who HIRES an illegal . . . Here in America we have a saying: Money talks, and bullshit walks. So, Republicans, are you going to go after the real reason illegal immigrants come here? They come because they're PAID to by your major donors, who must have their cheap labor.

Buggy Salesmen 2.0

Do representatives of America's High-tech workers "get it" or are they stuck in the past? A recent New York Times story (by Matt Richtel) highlighted some cracks in American attitudes towards immigration. We know the republicans have been against the immigration of "poor and downtrodden" - but apparently there is now significant pressure against the immigration of "smart and innovative". The Times' story was primarily about US immigration, it's impact on individuals enmeshed in the process, and how it is perceived among some in the tech community. (disclaimer: I am a beneficiary of the H1-B/Green card immigration process, and I'm working towards citizenship)
