Osama bin Ladin must be laughing his ass off. Not only is he still on the loose, but, for the cost of a couple of dozen box cutters and flight lessons for a half-dozen suicidal volunteers, he’s made the U.S. the laughing stock of the entire planet. Of course, he didn’t do this alone: he’s had tremendous help from the Bush Administration and its stupid congressional allies (including John McCain). And every time I hear about yet another Bush disaster that’s been caused by his obsession with so-called “the war on terror” (e.g., the Iraq insurgency, the Afganistan mess, the oil crisis, the Katrina failure, the illegal wiretaps, the torturing of “detainees,” the skyrocketing U.S. trade deficit, the collapse of the U.S. dollar…and now, this week, the Wall Street debacle…), I think about bin Laden sitting in his cave and giving ‘high-fives’ to all of his buddies. For the cost of a couple of dozen box cutters and flight lessons for a half-dozen suicidal volunteers, bin Laden got more than he ever could have hoped for: trillions of dollars worth of widespread panic. And here’s the kicker: bin Laden’s reign of terror appears likely to outlast George Bush’s. Nice job, W.

I think you just summed up my feelings exactly. Bravo.
Heckuva job, Bushie!
I guess this is what you can expect from 8 years of "compassionative conservative" rule, "small government" and "conservative" economic policies.
Say, weren't people saying in late September 2001 that a war in the Middle East was exactly the result Osama was after?
Weren't people saying in early 2003 that invading Iraq would create more terrorists & hatred of America than it would eliminate?
Weren't still more people saying that diverting attention & money toward Iraq & away from pursuing bin Laden & co was a bad idea?
Haven't others, observing among other things the housing bubble & sub-prime scam for a couple of years, been predicting exactly what's happening now?
Weren't people saying as early as 2004 that Team Bush's economic idiocy, golden showers for CEOs, hatred of regulation and constant borrowing to pay for Iraq would break the dollar?
Can we say "I told you so" yet?
Mission Accomplished indeed.
You're dead right grumpypilgrim, OBL must be ROFL.
Looks like bin Laden won't be the only one laughing his ass off. Turns out that France — you know, that *socialist* country in Europe with national healthcare, a 35-hour work week and month-long vacations — has been showing more economic growth than George Bush's U.S.A.
