Progressive News Media Abandons Julian Assange

It’s amazing to watch the “progressive” media slip away and abandon one of the biggest First Amendment threats of our time. Not too long ago, progressive media outlets gave full-throated support for Assange. Are there any progressive voices still speaking out for a pardon for Julian Assange? There would be, except that thinking has clearly become a team sport these days.

Assange is credibly charged with having actually involved himself personally in hacking a DOD file or files. That is a crime. Given Assange’s demonstarble arrogance, I have no doubt the charges are true (cannot be on that jury!). Assange was OK as long as he passed along information others gave to him but, actual assistance in determining a password to hack into one or more classified databases isn’t under the protection of the First Amendment.

Share that “credible evidence.” I know what you will say and it is flimsy. And while you are at it, tell me how the U.S. was damaged as a result of his publication of truths, if you can. As the cherry on top, let’s hear you admit that much of what Assange revealed was information the public should know, some of it exposing outrageous lies of the U.S. government (such as collateral murder). For you encore, tell me how it is that you are so critical of Assange when you when (while you were much younger) you admired Daniel Ellsberg.
