Hilarious elevator fun. I'm assuming that this experiment was conducted by an old TV show called "Candid Camera." The results remind me of Soloman Asch's social psych experiments from the mid 50's. Actually you'll see and feel the social pressures of riding an elevator most days, as people typically become silent during the ride.

Why is the American political system so irrational? Why is it that, even though a lot less partisanship and a lot more compromise would be good for the country, nobody can seem to get us there? The good news is that science is starting to figure this out. The bad news is that it seems to be fundamentally rooted in who we are -- creatures who can detect bad and emotional reasoning when others are guilty of doing it, but not so much when we're doing it ourselves.

"Tim's the kind of guy who is forever second-guessing his behavior, as if the people in his life are constantly scrutinizing every single move he makes, and he's completely correct about that—we are," said Paula Ramirez, a coworker who admitted she can barely look at Gibula without a medley of his most embarrassing moments replaying in her head. "Anytime he's been petrified at the thought of social interaction or obsessively reexamined something he's said, his fears have been entirely reasonable, given our nonstop monitoring of his behavior."

A friend of mine was recently traveling in the Middle East. While walking down a winding path, he stumbled upon this tablet of Sub-Commandments. It appears to be an authentic tablet of God's own elaborations and extensions of the Commandment "Do Not Lie."
This a fascinating collection of good advice. This collection demonstrates that God foresaw all of the devious means of deception and half-truths that His people would someday use (including the technique of "paltering").
