One of my daughters was reading comic books and asked me whether there really are such things as jet packs. I had seen some videos many years ago, but a few mouse clicks later, I discovered that you can actually buy one for $100,000. Here is a video showing you how to fly a jet pack. As impressive as this device is, I can’t imagine a family of four flying off in jet packs to have a picnic. And clearly, you won’t be able to sneak up on anyone while using a jet pack.

They also have problems with longevity. Flight times are very limited. You might go to the corner store and back with one, but that's about it.
or go to the store, get supplies then off to the park… but it's no picnic being stranded with a jet-pack!
I recall the old Hydrazine fueled Bell Rocket belts had about 20 seconds of flight time, but the Martin design is more like a flying platform and from their description is sounds more like it has flight times in the 20-30 minute range.
Speaking of jet packs, check out this rocket platform.
