According to today’s new poll, a hotly contested Missouri U.S. Senate Seat May ‘Flip’ from Republican to Democrat. Democrat Claire McCaskill’s site reports today’s poll results:
In an election for United States Senator from Missouri today, 10/12/06, Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill leads Republican incumbent Jim Talent 51% to 42%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KSDK-TV St. Louis and KCTV-TV Kansas City. Since an identical SurveyUSA poll 4 weeks ago, on 9/14/06, McCaskill has gained 3 points and Talent has lost 5 points. McCaskill’s advantage has grown from 1 point to 9 points.
The election is in 26 days, on 11/7/06. Most of the movement in the race comes from Independent voters, who supported Talent by 12 points in September but now support McCaskill by 13 points, a 25-point swing. 91% of Democrats vote Democrat. 87% of Republicans vote Republican.
Greetings,
I live in St. Louis MO, and have been volunteering for the McCaskill campaign since early August. I have seen the poll that says she is up 9 points, and I tend to think that is an anomaly. Most all polls since April of this year show a race within 3-4 points, between McCaskill and Talent. I did see a reference on another blog to a poll from last week that had McCaskill up 5 points. I still see this as a 'neck and neck' race. Also, remember that the Republican 'get out the vote' machine has not gotten into gear yet. The Claire campaign will be doing GOTV as well, but we know we are against stiff competition. We hope that the GOP scandals, and the fact that Bush is not running this year for office, will keep Repub turnout down.
When I have been out canvassing, I have not seen a lot of enthusiasm for Talent. His supporters are lukewarm-they sound flat about him, and there are few signs in their yards, or stickers on their cars. Just not much energy around Talent. I predict a close McCaskill victory, but that will only happen if people in Missouri volunteer with us to canvass and make sure our people get to the polls. Go to the website and volunteer your time, especially on election day Nov. 7.
