Hello! I started a comment for Erika's post on Biases and realized that there is a nice segue into Erich's article.
As animals we seem to be led to the drinking water and then we stick our heads in and guzzle, without questioning whether alligators may be lurking or hunters hiding or whether the water is clean…
Enough of the bad metaphor. The point is, we can and do make choices (all the time) but how many are influenced by our biases? And how many biases and beliefs are running us because of where we live, with whom we associate, and what's been offered to us?
Obviously, A LOT (yes, I know A LOT is un-scientific) but its food for thought.
Personally I find watching my thoughts and my emotions and noticing my reactions to any given situation are often NOT serving the "highest good" because I believe this or I am biased towards that.
So I will pay close attention to the choices I make. And I watch how others choose and ask myself, if those around me are choosing similarly, do I like that person, do I feel comfortable with them because of skin color, religion, etc.?
What biases run me? Which ones do I choose to keep and which do I question?
That's an awesome link. Thanks!
