Christmas Cabbage, etc.

I spotted this ornamental cabbage poking out of the snow while walking through Manhattan two days ago.   Is this a hint of Spring to come or the very end of the summer?

I went to St. Patrick’s to view the architecture.  It was cavernous and beautiful, as you can see below. And when I looked up to see the spandrels at St. Patrick’s I thought of Stephen J. Gould . . .
