"I leave you gentleman now and you will write it. You will interpret it. That's your right. But as I leave you I want you to know — just think how much you're going to be missing. You won't have Nixon to kick around any more, because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference and it will be one in which I have welcomed the opportunity to test wits with you."

    Between now and November 4…

    Let's spend one minute a day…

    Envisioning Barack Obama…

    As our President…

Prepare your heart to fill with hope…

Prepare your mind to embrace the change…

Envision Barack victorious on election night…

    …Taking the oath of office…

    On Inauguration Day…

Believe that this great moment in American history is already a reality…

    Say the words to yourself…

    To your family…

    To your friends and neighbors…

    Say it to the world…

Your vision is a sacred trust…

You are a sanctuary of a sacred vision for a renewed America…

    Envision it…

    Say it…

    Feel it…

    Believe it…

    Make it our reality…

    Manifest Obama, America!

ObamaMessiah? Some people are set up for a big let down. As a supporter, I just hope he has his house in order come January.

I think the obmamessiah thing is satire, though some of the stuff is real, and definitely over the top. Fortunately, we can make fun of our leaders, and more uniquely, the can make fun of themselves. Only in America!

Said Obama: "Contrary to the rumors you have heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father, Jor-el, to save the planet Earth,"

Expectations might be high on Obama, but since Bush is leaving the biggest political mess in U.S. history, Obama has nowhere to go but up.

I just returned home after spending an evening with my friends and heated debates about Americans and Obama. The whole discussion was so anti-American that it irritated me and now I read Larry's post. That amount of expectation is really unhealthy, you know?

I don't expect wonders out of any political leader. I would just like to see clarity of ideas and opinions as well as honesty in any thing they say they want to see changed that stems from an abiltiy to actually do what they promise.

Messiah complexes are one thing for individuals who live on the edge of sanity like Andy Martin, they are another thing for the leader of a democracy who has limits as to what they can and cannot do that are placed upon them by the structures and functions of the rest of the government and the business community. Unless the rest of government removes the balance of powers established in the Constitution, no one should expect Obama to do even a fraction of what he promised.

The economic downturn started when Obama's polling data indicated he was likely to win the election. Don't blame Bush, he made no policy changes. Obama's ideology does not fit with the business markets of this country. I don't expect to see a turn around until this is made clear to both Obama and his financial advisors.

Every time an idea is floated that even just discusses the possible tweaks that need to be done to fix the economy, the valuations head even lower.

A majority of the financial managers and investment markets need to want to support Obama's ideas before they will stop bailing out of their positions.

This is not a humorus position to find our nation in.

Karl, when did you decide that Andy Martin was on the edge of sanity? Were you just putting him out there to wind us up and get a response? I feel like Ive been played for a fool. You just keep bringing up inflammatory stuff, sit around enjoying the fire and fanning the flames, then in slash and burn style you move on to a new topic.

Therefore I won't respond to this latest attention-getting ruse about Obama causing the financial crisis, or your self-contradiction in the other thread where you simultaneously blame the "liberal" media for manipulating the majority of Americans to vote for Obama, and portray it as a pathetic loser in the commercial marketplace because it can't attract an audience.

Isn't a messiah complex when one believes that God is telling you what to do, as in our current POTUS and some of his advisors?

I want to believe in America. But when the people vote for the one that promises to get them the most goodies with the least amount of effort, their doom is sealed. The government has to have stolen whatever it has to give away to sustain it's position. Eventually the people recognize they have no need of it. I am patient.

    Vicki,

I'm using the description given to him by those who don't agree with many of his opinions and because in the past he has done some sensational stuff and will likely do some more in the future. I do not happen to think he is a nut case, he has a right to discovery in this matter as much as Obama had rights to dredge up sealed divorce proceedings on an opponent back in Illinois. If addressed properly to the right people, this nation does have a freedom of information act.

I do respect that he has managed to approach the matter of Obama's birth certificate in the only way the issue will be put to rest on a national level. I do not agree with many opinions expressed by various individuals here on Dangerous Intersection, but when someone handles their opinions in ways that others are treated respectfuly I take notice of the reasoning behind their ideas. I did not intend to imply that I believe Andy is more insane than the average political strategist who is constantly seeking out an angle to improve what they believe is the correct direction for our nation. Since I obviously offended you, I overstepped and should have been more careful in my selection of words and characatures. I'll try and not do it again.

I blame the liberal media for pushing McCane upon the Republicans leaving the conservatives in that party abandoned. I blame conservative talk radio for fueling chaos between the two major liberal democratic candidates that didn't allow for the more moderate of the two candidates who was moving back towards the center to be nominated. All in all, it was a pretty dissmal showing for conservatives in nearly everything except a few ballot proposition.

When a real conservative, be they Republican or Democrat gets nominated they tend to win electons. Conservative values are not a thing of the past. Finding candidates that don't make a mockery of them is the challenge.

Karl: I'm getting weary of spending so much energy pointing out the obvious to you. I'm make one short point. Conservatives have been in power for eight years and they have half-destroyed America and filled the land with hate, violence, needless war and divisiveness.

I consider you to be reckless with your fact-finding and disingenuous in your argumentation. You have demonstrated this tendency on dozens of occasions.

I'm writing these harsh words only so that I can refer readers to them on future occasions when you act similarly, so that I can more clearly communicate to readers that I do not consider you to be a lover of truth or wisdom. Based on the many instances at this site when you have failed follow facts where they led, or where you applied dramatically different stands of proof to the two sides of an issue, you have richly earned my disrespect, intellectually speaking.

Republicans are not the Conservative party and neither are conservatives absent from the Democratic party. It is the leadership of these parties in congress that try to evoke the illusion that the Republicans are conservative and the Democrats are liberal. True conservatism acts upon principles not money or popularity.

If fiscal conservatives were really in charge of either of the houses of congress you might have a point to make about the past eight years. What actually existed was a moderate conservative was in the executive branch for eight years. The congress had an initial FOUR years of RINO fat cats that where not being fiscally responsible. The leadership of these RINO's was not conservative. claim it all you like they spent money like "drunken sailors" and that is not conservatism. At Bush's second term election the tide began shifting and the liberal democrats gained many seats in congress. Fiscal responsibility was entirely gone by the time Reed and Palosi wrestled congress away from the RINO's by electing many who claimed to be "conservative democrats."

This past election cycle John McCain made a bold move to start to bring the Republican Party back to a conservative principled approach to governance. He was sacrificed on the altar of the lobbyists and liberal country club Republicans who wanted to be left unscrutinized and free to push their agenda upon the Republican party.

His polling numbers went ahead of Obama when he did this. It was at this juncture that the Republican leadership made certain that Sarah Palin would be sacrificed because they knew she would be an uncontrollable variable in their future domination of the party. She did go after corruption in here own party in Alaska. The party leadership couldn't handle the thought that they might be called out, or that she might actually have the ability to expose the flaws in American/International corporate board rooms.

The liberal media were handed Sarah Palin on a silver platter and the Queen of hearts (i.e. Elitist Republicans who would wait four years for another shot at controlling the Republican Party) looked the other way as she was throne to the liberal news media. I do not blame the Democrats for the divisions within the Republican party. I blame Democrats who clump all Republicans as conservatives when most in Washington and in corporate America are not conservative.

Don't take me for some uninformed citizen that can't see the full picture. I make up my own mind about the true nature and place of conservatism in the culture of America. You might try to see where the truth exists outside of your own point of view and party affiliation.

Unresolved questions about McCain's citizenship status:

Luckily, a credible legal challenge to the President-Elect's citizenship status is not part of the election fallout! As the article points out, the non-binding Senate resolution does nothing to resolve the issue. Why did the Dept. of Homeland Security refuse to release McCain's birth certificate? Why is there no record of McCain's birth in the Panama Canal Zone Health Department's bound birth registers? Why do the "Child Born Abroad" records of the U.S. consular service for August 1936 include many U.S. citizens born in the Canal Zone but no mention of John McCain? Most suspicious.

At the time of the Ames Caucus, John McCain was running near last. The big money boys had bussed in over 55 buses of voters from all over Iowa and paid their 35 buck fee, organized the lines to get them in and out fast etc. Ron Paul was the sharp little rock under the GOP's saddle reminding them how far they had fallen from their conservative ideals. The press mentioned him as little as possible, unlike lately since evrything he warned about is coming true. You are going to hasve to do better than that to make McCain appear conservative, to me.

I agree with you, Karl. Except that I don't think of Bush as a moderate anything and many of his advisers were anything but centrists. However, "conservative" is their label for themselves and the label by which they sold themselves to the voters. The various aspects of the Republican Party have become so entangled that it is not possible to tease them apart in a campaign. It's virtually impossible for a fiscal conservative to run without also signing onto the social conservative platform. There is no "line item veto" for positions among them. And as long as they were in power there was no way for them to purge themselves of the uglier elements, because the perception would persist that those elements were necessary to get re-elected.

The perniciousness of this has been demonstrated fully in McCain's campaign. He did better until he fired his first campaign staff and hired the Karl Rove team. I at least found myself able to respect him till then. But he bought into the idea that he couldn't win without that element.
