The complexity of the human immune system

The immune system is an unsung hero most days of our lives. We would all quickly die without its efficient functioning. But how complex is it. Take a look at this animation which is an extremely simplified version of this incredibly complex system. Then thank your immune system for doing a good job today.

For another animation focusing only on the production of antibodies, see the following:

Here’s one more, for the fun of it. Even dumbed down with animation, the human body is such an amazing thing. More amazing than any fiction one could ever conjure up.

To end my mini-excursion today, I read some simplified lessons from Khan Academy, which offers these lessons as part of its MCAT prep.

I can’t seem to stop myself at Kahn Academy. These presentations are great for non-experts like me. I’m having a hard time tearing myself away from these lectures on osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Lots of good information presented clearly and understandably, much like the mathematics presentation for which Kahn Academy was originally best known.
