About the Founding Fathers . . .

Wow! This is something I hadn’t realized about the “Founding Fathers.”

Ages of Founding Fathers

This makes me wonder why we continue to elect (and re-elect) so many politicians who are so much older, many of them physically tottery and not mentally sharp. My concern is that big money and entrenched tribal power are keeping smart young blood out of contention, ossifying our system of government.

In 1776 life expectancy was somewhere around 40, in part because so many men died young from conflict, and the death rate for women from delivery was horrendous by modern standards. Improved sanitation went a long way toward a steady lengthening of life.

I agree. My point is that there are tons of smart people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Why is it that as of March 2, 2020, the candidates still running for President were extraordinarily old, historically speaking?

You’re correct. I contributed to the Buttigieg campaign, not because of his age, but because of his self-evident intelligence. He was simply too smart to believe the bullshit.
