I reached my breaking point in 1998 when I fired a brilliant woman who was incapable of following direction or working with others collaboratively. HR told me to rescind the firing because it created risk of a discrimination lawsuit because she had been born male. I refused. If discrimination policy is determined by a mob, why had I marched in the 1960s? Any other employee with her behavior would have been subject to firing. Treating her differently because she was transgender was the epitome of unjustified discrimination.
