Facebook Muzzles Brett Weinstein

Brett

This action by FB should send a shockwave through America. Brett Weinstein is a good-hearted and extremely thoughtful voice that we desperately need. The curtain has now been pulled back and we can see that Private-Owner Social Media Wizards can flip a switch to cancel anyone without any stated reason. This comes on the heels of Brett’s recent muzzling by Twitter, apparently for his spot-on criticism of our precious political duopoly.

So where is one supposed to lodge a complaint once FB and Twitter have both decided to become supervising nannies regarding the content of one’s posts?

We are moving down an extremely dangerous slippery slope.

Brett’s Account has been restored, but Brett has a question.

Right. A Jewish left-wing libertarian who joined the Occupy Wall Street protest and had a lifelong history of supporting civil rights was canceled for insufficient zealotry in defense of Wokeness. “We’ve restored it and a sorry for the mistake” won’t cut it so long as the NY Post’s reach is limited by social media for publishing a story better-verified than the repeated Russian Collusion stories, evidently because it exposed wrong-doing by the Democratic standard-bearer’s son, and possibly by the former Vice President himself. The Jeffrey Toobin Zoom Dick story has little traction outside of conservative media and Rolling Stone, hardly an alt-right publication.

I would have no problem with a liberal bias in the media; this seems to be a tectonic shift to a partisan bias, not at all the same thing. How much more can we damage our institutions?

I’m working hard to think of an institution that hasn’t been severely damaged over the past few decades. What institution(s) remain reliably intact?

This story isn’t going to die soon, and shouldn’t.

Here’s what I’m gathering . . . If you fuck with Eric Weinstein’s brother, you’ve fucked with Eric Weinstein. It would be good (though maybe not reassuring) to know the backstory to the disappearance of Brett’s FB account. FB’s explanation does not match the facts here. Are we seeing typical corporate-speak incompetence or was there, perhaps, a short-lived mutiny inside FB intent on cancelling Brett? Or something else? This kind of shit could happen to any of us, but most of us don’t have this kind of pull or this kind of resourceful and courageous brother to allow us to push for an answer.
