What a sick, twisted anti-Catholic cartoon! I’ll bet that was fun posting it. I’m sure that no atheist has ever done another human any wrong, eh? Mao, Stalin, Kruschev, Pol Pot, etc must have accounted for tens to hundreds of millions of deaths in the name of no God. Shame on you.
You know what, Tim—atheism is merely a statement of non-belief in a supernatural entity. Religion, on the other hand, is a full suite of programs, and in the case most of them deal very stridently with Peace and Love One Another, so the burden of hypocrisy and failure is on that. In the case of all those tyrants you named, their atheism was not their motivation. None of them were motivated to be brutal because they didn’t believe in god, nor, when compared with all the tyrants who did profess a belief in a god, would it have made any difference.
Thank you, however, for not naming Hitler in that list, as he was apparently many things but not an atheist. (Did you know that Himmler refused to allow atheists into the SS? He thought atheism was a perversion. Go figure.)
But I have to ask finally, given the obvious satirical presentation, what about that cartoon is a mischaracterization?
