As you can tell, there have been quite a few changes to the site design of Dangerous Intersection. There are many more changes to come.
Therefore, if you see something that looks not quite right for the next couple of weeks, we’re probably working on it. It’s taken many hours of work–I now know ten times as much about WordPress as I did one month ago. But it’s also been fun and educational. WordPress is a most impressive system, with perhaps too many choices. Too many choices, did I say?

You can personalize your comments with your own image. Truly, it’s EASY. It will take 5 minutes at most, assuming you have an image of yourself ready. It’s totally free.
With Gravatar, you have total control over the image you’d like to use as author of comments (your photo will be displayed next to each comment you make). You can change it any time you want, Total control. Ownership society!

– Set up an account with the email address you normally use when you leave comments and choose a password
-upload a photo of yourself. Make it a GOOD photo (whatever the hell that means).
– Crop the photo at Gravatar by stretching the little cropping device over that part of the photo you’d like (presumably all of it)
– Associate that photo with your email address (you can associate that photo with multiple email addresses, if you want.
-Tell Gravatar the “rating” of your photo (presumably it’s “G” rated (I’m only displaying “G” rated at DI).
That’s it. Whenever you leave a comment using that email address, your image will pop up too. Not just at DI, either. It will work at numerous other Gravatar-enabled sites.

Oh, and to anyone who is bothered by the generic blue "gravatar" logo: To fix your avatar, go to gravatar.com and create a profile using the email address that is associated with your wordpress account.
Tim Hogan just called me to whine that the new banner was "boring." I informed him that there will soon be artwork up at the banner.
Tim has this way of worrying about things like this. It goes back (gulp) 35 years, when Tim and I both wrote for "The Mercy Shield," the official publication for "Mercy High School," which was located in University City Missouri.

Joining up might be worth looking into. It's a daily visit for me and I've discovered many great blogs and authors that I probably wouldn't have stumbled across otherwise. My hope is that it would do the same for Team DI.

Since Tim was the one who started the whining I can now safely chime in. I think the new design looks very professional and well designed (not that the old one was really bad, but the new one looks a bit sleeker), but I hate the moving thing below the banner. It's driving me nuts! Also I find the teaser for the blog posts too short. I found it more convenient not having to click on every entry that I want to read. That was much better with the old design.
Or did the moving stop already?

I agree about the need to make the teasers longer–I'm trying to figure that out.

Ideally, the "Read More" would be an ajax function that simply loaded the rest (or perhaps displayed as much as the old design) of the content without having to reload the page.
Ouch! We had a big crash, but we're back. We were down from late last night until about 2 pm today. The cause? I'm experimenting with various new features that are loaded up separately, and one of them refused to "play nice" with the others.
We'll hope for smoother sailing here on out.
How do we get to recent posts that are beyond the Recent Posts list? I can find no "Older Posts" link, nor the old Previous/next post links. I miss them.
A word about my new avatar, because Mike commented on it here after my own off-topic comment about my haircut video.
I'm not wearing a knit cap. I shot myself in the evening snow, with the snow accumulating on my mustache and newly shortened top hair above my ear warmer.

Dan: Those older recent posts are all available. Click the "Older Entries" link at the bottom of each "Recent Posts" list.
For much older posts, the Archive Index is what is supposed to help out, but it's not yet functional. I'm working on that. In the meantime, use the "Archive" link that is just above "Select Month" (which is the new nested drop-down categories list). This "Archive" link is fully functional.
