Now here’s a memorable and thoughtful prayer (this link includes the written transcript). It was delivered by Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson as part of the pre-inauguration activities. As you might recall, Robinson is seen by many as a counter-weight to Obama’s selection of Rick Warren to give the inaugural invocation. According to Crooks and Liars, the mainstream media stayed the hell away. This distance is understandable, because this is a prayer loaded with the kind of truth that takes the form of intellectual and emotional dynamite. Too much raw truth to handle for the network types.
Bless us with discomfort . . .

Maybe it was just oversight it wasn't covered, maybe the Invocation never is covered, maybe it was, as some say, the Obama organizers who told HBO and others not to cover it, maybe it was just an error.
However it happened, what a loss. Those words and that message is so very pertinent and exactly what we need.
Bless us with discomfort – at the easy, simplistic “answers” we’ve preferred to hear from our politicians, instead of the truth, about ourselves and the world, which we need to face if we are going to rise to the challenges of the future.
