A View of the Election From Europe

One of the comics that I read is called PhDComics (“Piled Higher and Deeper”). Originally a student strip from Stanford, and now grown into a franchise of its own. Go here to see how the author reports on our 2008 presidential election, as he experienced while on tour in Europe.

It was covered on all the TV stations in Zurich. It brought cheers in England. Another American on a flight told him, “I’m not embarrassed to say I’m from Ohio, any more.”

The comment from the diplomat (“who probably prefers to remain anonymous”) is revealing.

A coworker of mine just returned for two weeks in Germany, where he and his family were visiting with with his in-laws. He had voted early before leaving to Germany, and said that everyone over there was asking if he had voted for Obama.
