The title to this post is from a bumper sticker shown in “Generation Chickenhawk,” a video shot last week by Max Blumenthal. The scene? The College Republican National Convention in Washington D.C.
Here’s proof that our young Republicans love wars as long as others do the fighting.
Blumental’s ten-minute video is well worth watching if you’re looking for unassailable evidence that neocons are actually members of the political equivalent of a fundamentalist religion. Interesting to see that Tom Delay still has a willing audience.
In his blog at Salon.com, Glenn Greenwald describes the core mentality of those who remain pro-war:
We need to prove to the world how powerful and tough and strong we are by kicking ass and starting wars and putting our boots on the ground and getting our hands dirty and bombing and invading and fighting like the Real Warriors we are because Civilization is at Risk. And the way we should do that is by sending those people — the ones way, way over there — to go and fight and risk their lives in the wars I love.
More than ever, Iraq remains a battle over hearts and minds. The site of the battle is not only Iraq, however. The battle is being fought right here in the U.S., with the corporate media serving as an ally to those who prefer the status quo. The status quo is the inevitable result of the lack of information regarding the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
This past weekend, I watched "Team America: World Police". This ridiculous adult puppet show had elements that would most likely be take seriously by the neo-conservatives and the war hawk.
The movie starts with a scene in Paris where 4 stereotypical Arab terrorists (speaking gibberish with a few familiar moslem names thrown in), carrying a suitcase described as a WMD. Team America shows up, and in the ensuing fire-fight, they manage (with rocket launchers, air to ground missles, and lots of machin-gun fire, manage to kill the 4 Arabs. In the process they also destroy the Eiffel Tower, the Arc d'Triumph, and the Louvre, then afterward are totally unable to comprehend why the French people are not jumping with joy.
I've long since noted the similarities between the Republican party and organized religion. Both stress a rigid hierarchy, wherein as you move up by each layer, there is more freedom and less responsibility or accountability. Each level demands more compliance from the level below it, and at the base level, everyone is held responsible for the decisions of the few.
Squawk, squawk, squawk, squawk! It seemed to me like a couple of the guys questioned had never even considered the possibility of actually fighting in the war they support so ardently.
The new College Republicans have found their religion in the war. In the past, they only had things to be "against"…minorities, gay marriage, liberals, civil rights, MSM, and now have something to be "For."
Karl Rove and the Bush administration and its GOP supporters have crassly manipulated the Iraq civil war into a line in the sand against al Qaeda, which wasn't in Iraq before we invaded and conquered it. After wasting hundreds of thousands of lives and trillions in treasury in Iraq, they'll always have to have another place to go so they can claim the Democrats are "soft on…." for the next election or until they violently overthrow the republic by force of arms, the little treasoners. I say impeach 'em, toss 'em in the clink, and throw away the keys….after a fair trial , of course!
Perhaps there should be a law that says anyone in Congress or the White House who votes to send troops into harms way automatically volunteers their own children for military service. Such a law might go a long way toward making lawmakers think hard about the need to go to war.
