It’s as certain as death and taxes. Whoever is in power WILL TRY TO ABUSE THE FIRST AMENDMENT. Here’s the 2025 campus score card for Trump era, 2.0, [1] the inverse of what happened in the Biden era. Keep in mind that discrimination on campus is only one slice of a much bigger pie. Government censorship goes on in other places too. Trump has been a mixed bag, to be sure. Since his most recent election, for instance, the government jaw-boning and censorship of social media has diminished, but yet we do have this substantial problem on campus that has been goaded on by Trump. As Nat Henthoff famously wrote: “Free speech for me, but not for thee.”
