Ten of Obama’s underpublicized accomplishments

April 29, 2009 | By | 18 Replies More

Sam Stein at Huffpo published this impressive list of Obama’s under-publicized accomplishments during his first 100 days.   Some of these items are truly remarkable.  As I reviewed the list of ten items, I kept thinking “it’s about time.”

Consider the new hospital records system, for example.  The Bush Administration had 8 years to clean up this big mess but didn’t get anything done.   Under Obama, a new system is already underway.   And, of course, he has done wonderful work starting to repair the sullied image of the United States around the world.   It’s a lot better to have good international relations than to taunt other nations and threaten wars.

Wow this is incredible, i decided to atleast try and find SOMETHING that Obama has accomplished but instead all i find are the things he has STARTED, how can these be viewed as accomplishments?? If i start digging as a child in an attempt to reach the center of the earth i am not congratulated unless it is my mother. If i decide one day to attempt a slam dunk from the three point line that dosnt make me Michael Jordan. Somehow Obama can still be honored for STARTING some well portrayed movement.

  2. What a Joke says:

Pretty amazing isn't it, Derrick. Obama has done nothing but put the US deeper into debt. This blog is a joke.

  3. Hugh says:

The guy has done more in his first year than Reagan,Bush(Daddy) and Junior accomplished in 20 years at the helm..heck,they virtually destroyed workers rights, civil rights and decent paying jobs altogether. Amazed to see working class and poor people bash Obama..a man who has tried to do what he promised but gets attacked for doing so. I can understand the wealth driven, greedy, rich right wing bitching because they dont want to pay their fair share, however,to see normal everyday working men and women complain..just idiotic.

  4. Derrick? Hugh?

First, that's what president's do—they start things, get them moving.

Second, the layer upon layer of crap under which Bush buried this country requires a big shovel to dig us out of before we even see daylight again, and that takes time.

Thirdly, the problem with this country is exemplified by your attitudes—people are spoiled, impatient, and shallow. They don't realize things take time to fix and when they aren't fixed RIGHT NOW they think it's a failure.

Four, did you honestly think the debt burden wasn't going to get worse before it got better? The cycle of spend and crash Bush started is like an avalanche.

But I waste my words. You already made up your minds.

  5. Ron says:

If you thought it was the country was in trouble when Bush left office. Just wait and see what it's like when obama's done with it. He will bring this country down to the size every one else wants it to be.

  6. Ron,

And Bush was going to restore us to greatness. That worked well.

  7. kris says:

Mark T. – your comments are so well spoken. My prayer for America is that the wild crowd that has such impatience can learn to be more thoughtful before trying to tear down good people (like Obama) who are trying to make things better.

It's like we throw the baby out with the bath water.

How to get on the right side of the "wild and angry" crowd seems to be very important for political survival – so that a politician can be in office long enough to get things accomplished.

  8. Bucker Spielman says:

Mark T. and Hugh, thank you for your intelligent comments. It was encouraging to read them after staring in horror at those of Derrick and…uh, "What A Joke." It's so sad that some people don't understand the horrible resistance President Obama is facing… The right wing nutsies up at the capitol are doing what they can to ruin him without paying any mind to the fact that they are actually hurting our citizens by denying them health care and fair taxes (it does hurt the country when we undertax the rich)… And, yes, it is going to take a lot to get us out from under this garbage Bush spewed on top of us (tax breaks for outsourcing jobs?? WTF??)… I'm actually impressed that President Obama has remained so determined to bring about the changes he promised when you consider how much crap he's facing.

  9. Jon B says:

"I am asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington…I am asking you to believe in yours" Said the man who has been working his ass off for the likes of people like Derrick and "What a Joke". If he hasnt done anything that has pleased you so far, write him a letter and be patient. People like you(Derrick, Ron) are whining your bitch-asses off, yet you're not doing anything for the country. Ever hear the phrase "Dont judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes"? People like you piss me off so bad "You must be the change you wish to see in the world"-Mahatma Gandhi. Please stop publishing your opinion on sites like these if you dont know anything about the subject you are talking about. Mark, you are sensible, behind you all the way.

Now we're further down the road, and we can see the track record Barack Obama is compiling: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/3/30/85242

  11. I don't agree with some of Obama's ways of beefing the Federal Government, but it should be obvious that he has done a lot of things I never thought I would see a president do, and he has helped a lot of people. The working class forgets that he is under a lot of pressure to not simply crush the way the corporations have held power for 200 years. I really do believe he is trying to make a transition for everyone.

  12. XXX says:

Repair our relationship around the world? How's that working out? Oh yeah, Obama went around the world telling everyone what big mistakes the United States has made and how he's going to entend his hand to these countries because the U.S. has expressed irrogance around the world. And they responded so positively? Chavez laughed at us and gave Obama an insulting book as a gift. Iran and North Korea are both thumbing their nose at the U.S. Good job Mr. President

  13. So XXX, are those the only three examples you use to show that nothing has changed? Bush pissed everybody off and that's changed with Obama, who actually seems to have a grasp of diplomacy. To suggest that the three turds floating in the bowl are still turds and therefore Obama has failed to transform them into eclairs is rather vacuous.

  14. Niklaus Pfirsig says:

On May 27, 2010 President Obama signed the Daniel Pearl Act into law.

The Daniel Pearl Act amends the 1961 Foreign Assistance Act which defines human rights criteria used for determining eligibility of a foreign nation for aid from the US. The Daniel Pearl Act includes Freedom of the press as a determining factor.

  15. CAT says:

The last admin. SCREWED this country like no other admin. has !!! Whoever followed walked into such a mess it would take YEARS to fix. Yet, we have spin doctors like Rush, Fox in a box news…. that want to blame EVERYTHING on THIS admin., who want to forget the past 8 years and who feed ignorant americans with everything they want to hear. TOTALLY biased spin sound bites….

The backlash of the bush admin. on the economy was predicted BEFORE he even left office. Any economist with an I.Q would tell you – it is going to take YEARS and YEARS to fix the mess the last admin. left us in.

Problem is, Repubs want to leave the blame with Obama so they block anything this admin. tries to do to fix the problems…… Then they can say – he didn't do anything. SAddest part is, it is at OUR expense that they play politics as usual !!!!

Obama has done very good things but, he’s looking like a stooge for wall Street what with all the Goldman Sachs folks around and no 1,000 Man Perp Walk on Wall Street and environs. Obama will have me cold when the clowns that shot down the world’s economy and authored the EU soveriegn debt crisis for fun and profit are prosecuted and put away for a very long time.
