David Sirota at Alternet:

When I went on Rachel Maddow's show on Tuesday, she asked a question about the bailout that is really the question of our time: Did we get punk'd? As progressive bailout critics have been saying since the current Wall Street bailout was first proposed, the answer is yes.

As the Minneapolis Federal Reserve reports, the major claims about a credit crisis that justified Congress cutting a trillion-dollar blank check to Wall Street were demonstrably false. And new data and reports show they remain demonstrably false.

The more I see of Henry Paulson, the more he reminds me of Bush's former FEMA director, Michael Brown. Several weeks ago, Paulson gave an interview in which he said he believed the U.S. would avoid a serious financial crisis (!); then, in an interview this week, Paulson gave no clear answer to how he planned to steer his way out of this mess. He did, however, repeatedly go out of his way to lavish praise on George Bush -- one of the worst examples of ass-kissing I've seen in a long time, even from a Bush administration insider. Paulson appears to be just one more example of how Bush surrounds himself with people who are as blindly loyal as they are inept.

Does Henry Paulson have any idea what he is doing? Why dramatically change course after pleading your case to the American People, then receiving hundreds of billions of dollars? Consider how unsteady he is looking: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/223712.php
