Actually, a vote for a 3rd party is a better protest than non-participation.

Throwing your vote away for a party which has no chance of winning is voting for BushMcCain.
I’m certainly not completely thrilled about Barack Obama but, see him as the clearly lesser of any evils.

When those who understand that they don’t really know what is going on choose not to vote, then only those who are more ignorant will vote.
In other words Tim, I agree.
