Here's what I don't understand: Wasilla has a population of 10,000, but, under Palin, apparently received $27 million in federal earmarks. How did she leave the town in debt? That must have been one big hockey rink.

"Vote for someone smarter than you. Vote for someone who inspires you. Vote for someone who has not only traveled the world but who has also shown a deep understanding and compassion for it. The stakes are real and they’re terrifyingly high. This election matters. It matters. It really matters. Let me say that one more time. This. Really. Matters."

Blablabla. Bush got elected twice. Jumping around and telling yourself that she is sososo unfit for the post of vice-president is surely not preventing her from getting elected.

Andrew Sullivan wrote this in today's London Times:

I cannot join in. In fact I cannot say anything about this candidacy that takes it in any way seriously. It is a farce. It is absurd. It is an insult to all intelligent people. It is a sign of a candidate who has lost his mind. There is no way to take the nomination of Palin to be vice-president of the world’s sole superpower - except to treat it as a massive, unforgivable, inexplicable decision by someone who has either gone insane or is managerially unfit to be president of the United States. When, at some point, the hysteria dies down, even her supporters will realise that, by this decision, McCain has rendered himself unfit to run a branch of Starbucks, let alone the White House.

Vicki: Sarah called me yesterday and said that I should stop blogging bad things about her.

She said that she would have considered hiring me as the U.S. Attorney General, except that I didn't go to high school with her.

Erich, if I were you, I'd be expecting a phone call any day now:

“You should be ashamed!” Ivy Frye, the assistant, told her. “Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now!”

I think you guys should try to look for a way now how to get rid of Sarah Palin. Everybody with some brain knows she is a ridiculous choice for VP, nevertheless, she has a huge group of supporters. The video with Charles Gibbons was more than enough proof of her incompetence, but I would be able to post dozens of comments from people who believe she did fabulous in this interview and Gibbons was sexist and mean.

Obviously some people have huge chips on their shoulder and anybody with a university degree is a threat to their ego. What happened that an educated and intelligent person like Obama is considered to be an elitist while Palin is hailed for her personal values? I wonder how many of them have a university degree. Has obtaining a university degree become something out of reach for the average middle-class American, making them feel intellectually inferior to anybody who has a more advanced level of education? Are they just oversensitive? I mean, obviously the need for having a leader who does not look down at them and their lifestyle is clouding their judgment. It must be a strong need.

I think a lot of people look at Obama and do have a strong feeling that he is not one of them. He looks too smooth, rich and educated. He is seen too often in nice shiny suits. He looks as if the problems of the small people are a theory he has gone through at school. I don't think coming with objective reasons and rationality is going to change anything. The McCain/Palin supporters are driven by irrational emotions, Bush voters have been driven by irrational emotions. Telling them over and over that for this and that reason they are moronic morons and Palin a bad choice is useless. It didn't work with Bush and it's not going to work with Palin. I think the Democrats should work on the emotional component of their campaign. They are intellectualizing too much and the hockey mom is getting bored.

By the way, I find it scary that every candidate, whether from the Democrats or the Republicans is so rich. I don't think people really want that kind of rich dynasty leadership à la Kennedy anymore, but since they can only choose between nice rich buddy (Bush, McCain) and rich intellectual (Obama, Clinton) they will go for the former, that's less frightening and damaging to your ego. These guys won't challenge your stupidity and irrational contradictory beliefs. Best of all is of course someone like Palin who is nice and not rich.
