The more I think about my above comment, the more I find myself wondering: why should McCain's experience fighting against *communism* be considered especially relevant in the current fight against fundamentalist Islamic terrorism?

McCain's campaign is one of the lamest in recent memory. In one campaign ad, he claims to support both energy conservation and a "gas tax holiday," and he then attacks Obama for supporting energy conservation but not the gas tax holiday. In making this attack, McCain displays his complete ignorance of economics: a gas tax holiday would lower the price of energy and, thus, increase consumption -- the antithesis of energy conservation. Obama correctly recognizes that the two tactics are incompatible; McCain does not.

In the ad that Erich mentions, McCain tries to blame Obama for high gasoline prices, saying Obama's opposition to opening more off-shore land for drilling will lead to higher prices. McCain's claim rests on several invalid assumptions, the most glaring of which is the fact that land access is not the bottleneck in off-shore drilling: the bottleneck is a shortage of drilling platforms. Off-shore drilling platforms take years to build, install and make operational, and every one that currently exists is already in use; thus, making more off-shore land available will do absolutely nothing to increase production, at least not for several years. Another fact is that America's off-shore supplies, even if running at maximum output, would make a relatively insignificant increase in total global output; thus, the impact on global prices would also be insigificant.

These are just some of the more glaring defects in McCain's ads, any one of which should make the guy unqualified to sit in the Oval Office. McCain might be a hero from a war against communism that was fought *four decades* ago, but he's just too ignorant, and too stupid, to handle the problems facing our world today.

McCain's campaign is being run by incompetent people. Consider this new commercial where McCain is blaming Barack Obama for the high price of gasoline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20wGx4TYphc&NR=1
