Bush's "we're kicking ass" comment reminds me of all the spectators who come out of sports stadia yelling, "we won," when, in fact, the spectators were just sitting on their fat asses while the *players* won. The only reason Bush believes he is "kicking ass" in Iraq is because he keeps his ass well out of harm's way.

I agree with Jason Rayl. Given that the US has the most powerful military in the world (certainly the most expensive), if the "surge" is NOT working then I definitely want some answers as to why. But the fact that the increased military presence is "working" is not the issue. The fact that political action is NOT working (and, in fact, is essentially nonexistent) is the issue.

Jason: I didn't realize that Bush was so clever at intentionally saying essentially nothing when he spoke. This opens up new possibilities for future conversations regarding Iraq.

Maybe next time he's asked about Iraq, he can say one of these things:

It's amazing!
It's exciting!
We're really working at it!
God is blessing us for our efforts in Iraq.
It's phenomenal!

C'mon, Erich---we are "kicking ass" in Iraq. That's about all we're doing, though. Not fixing much. Peace doesn't look like it's about to break out all over. Haven't got much better handle on the sectarian vioplence. But, boy, do we know how kick ass!
